Materials supplier Avient Corp. launched crosslinkable formulations for photovoltaic cables in solar energy applications.
According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), solar photovoltaic (PV) production is growing at record levels and is experiencing major investment globally. As determined by the IEA, an average annual output growth of 25% from 2022 to 2030 is needed to meet the Net Zero Emissions Scenario by 2050.
New ECCOH XL Cross-Linkable Solutions for photovoltaic cables are REACH compliant, Avient said. They are rated for permanent outdoor use with good UV and weather resistance, passing Arrhenius lifetime prediction tests according to IEC 60216-1. In addition, they have good electrical performance, are compatible with DC or AC power supplies and have flame retardant performance according to EN 50618 and IEC 60332-1, according to Avient.
The new formulations can provide production efficiencies for cable manufacturers by reducing the need to use multiple materials as ECCOH XL can be used for both cable insulation and jacket coating. In addition, they enable high processing speeds and, thanks to their unique technology, can offer up to 50% reduction in catalyst usage compared to competitive technologies.
“Avient has an ongoing commitment to sustainability by supporting the growth of bio-polymers, recycled solutions or sustainable infrastructure,” said Matt Mitchell, Avient’s Director of Global Marketing, Specialty Engineering Materials. “We are constantly working on new formulations to solve customer problems and meet market demands. We are excited to support the growth of photovoltaic power generation systems with these new high-performance materials.”
ECCOH XL Cross-Linkable Solutions for photovoltaic cables are currently manufactured in Europe and available worldwide.
