The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) says developers have installed 345.5 GW of solar power worldwide in 2023. China has largely driven the growth, accounting for about three-quarters of all new renewable energy, but IRENA says more equitable growth is needed to achieve this growth. 2030 deployment targets.

According to official figures published by IRENA in its Renewable Energy Capacity Statistics 2024 report, an additional 345.5 GW of solar power was commissioned in 2023.
These figures differ significantly from figures released in February by BloombergNEF, which reported that global newly installed PV capacity reached about 444 GW last year.
IRENA’s figures represent a 32.2% increase over 2022 levels and are a record for a calendar year. Solar power accounted for about 73% of total renewable energy last year, totaling 473 GW.
